I dont believe it has to be directly physical but a goal that is not of an emotional or mental change or goal.

Background:

Etch Travelled with her makeshift family of Mercenaries/Hunters, until one of their commissions they went to an ancient place of magic, they were betrayed by one of their own and to Etch's knowledge all killed.
Etch finds herself resurrected  but in another world from her own, one cut off from all other worlds and now in the possession of magic.

Short Term External Want:

To learn to use this new magic of hers and learn where she now is

Internal 'Needs' Objective:

To talk to people about her current problem and learn to trust people again

Location:
Set on Earth, magic society is unknown to the rest of the world and to the current world magic included the existence of other worlds is unknown, Earth having been long cut off from the rest.

Etch Finds herself in this magic society who are very biased against those who do not have magic, weak magic, or those with connections to the non-magic society. She is taken in by a magic school as a ward.

Antagonist:

Lyra is from a well known magic family, who have incredibly high expectations of her.

Conflict:

Competition for the best, the winner get the privilege of representing the school for an important gathering of various schools, Lyra is headstrong and determined to be seen as the best no matter the cost, and Etch is going for it to get to see more of this world, having been only around the magic school she wants to use this as an opportunity to gather information on what the rest of the magic society is like. Their rivalry ends up causing a mess, Because of that they are both barred from going they just wont be in an important role (later revealed the whole class was going anyway they were too blinded to search further)

Resolve the conflict:

To go, they must both work together to convince the teachers, that they should go, Etch admits that she only wanted to get the position to see more of the magic world, that because she is attending this school she can't go out on her own, and she has no family to take her.

They talk out a truce and plan to convince the teacher to let them go along with the class.
